Please consider donating to the different organizations helping those affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. I know people think of sending items, but remember that money can be used instantly, it doesn’t need to be shipped and dispersed, and is generally easier to work with.
How to help the most with your donation dollars:
If you work for an organization that matches employee contributions, consider donating directly to the Red Cross. Check with your company’s policies (like minimum donation and such) to make sure it’s eligible for matching.

If you don’t work for a company with matching, Living Social has a deal where you can donate $5 and they match it. Sadly, you can only buy one per account, and this is good for the next 24 hours.
On top of that, Cheap Ass Gamer is matching up to $10,000 in donations but it seems like they might have hit their cap already.
The way I see it, I have gotten so much enjoyment out of Japanese “stuff” (music, movies, TV, games, everything) and I want to go there some day, so this is me giving back. If the nuclear situation is fine and if there are any opportunities to go for a week and help clean up and rebuild, you’ll see me signing up. So please think about donating today even if it’s just $5 – every bit helps!
