Never Alone

Why not jump back into blogging with a typical 20something problem? Some of you may know this, but several weeks ago, my boyfriend of over three years and I broke up. It was partially a shock, but in other ways wasn’t. I’m mostly glad that it wasn’t messy; we’re still the best of friends like we have been for the past five years.

Why did we break up? It mainly came from the realization that we wanted very different things in life. We have different outlooks on things; for example, I want to live in Connecticut near the New York line, work a job I love, and have a nice mostly secular life with Santa filled Christmas and chocolate egg laying Easter bunnies. He doesn’t care what kind of job he works as long as it pays well, he’d like to live in New Jersey or even Israel, and he wants to become more religious. Writing things out like this, it doesn’t really make sense that we stayed together for so long. It was a good first relationship for me, regardless.

Since we broke up, I’ve been kind of at a loss for what to do to go on with my life. I mainly work from home, so meeting people is hard. I really only have a handful of friends in the state of Connecticut, and my friends from college are spread throughout New Jersey down to the Carolinas. I really don’t have a solid friend-base in any one area right now.

I’ve decided that my first step to figuring stuff out is to just find some new friends. It’s kind of hard, though, because it seems that my friends around here don’t have many friends around here either! It’s a vicious cycle, really. Some people have suggested Meetup.com to me, which is a really awesome resource in some areas, but around here the main things are a beagle club (I have a collie), a fiction writer’s club (not quite my area), and just other stuff that doesn’t quite catch my eye.

I joined OkCupid for kicks. However, it seems like if you’re female and put up a cute picture, you will be raking in the messages. I think I got 6 in the first 24 hours. It’s kind of flattering at first, but when you’re just not interested in any of them, it’s kind of obnoxious. Online dating/friend-making is weird.

How have you tried to meet new people and such after a breakup or move?

My internship at HardestLevel is definitely keeping me busy. I’ve been keeping focused on that over the past few days, with two new posts that went up today. I also have some family issues that are zapping up my other energies, so please bear with me a little longer. I’m going to try to straighten out my time by the end of next week.

To tide you over for the weekend, check out the new 2PM song, Tired of Waiting. This is unfortunately without leader JaeBum, but we’re all hoping he will be allowed to come back for this album. Keep your fingers crossed!

Anyway, this is an upbeat song, with a little too much autotune, but it’s still pretty catchy. No music video yet, so just take a listen.

As I mentioned earlier, I applied for a blogging internship. After a phone interview and some writing samples, I found out last night that I got it!

Blogging cat?

I am now an intern for Xanga’s HardestLevel.com, which is really awesome and you should all check it out. See what looking a little harder a little outside your area can do? I’m really very excited about this and I think it will be a lot of fun.

FYI, depending on the workload, my posts here could become a bit thinner, but I’ll try. However, I’ll figure out a way to link to any posts at the other place as well for those that are interested.
